File and Printer Sharing in a Workgroup

  1. Make sure that all PCs are a member of the same workgroup (use the standard of "WORKGROUP" to keep it simple for any new PCs being joined)
  2. Make sure the firewall is either turned off, or has the appropriate exceptions set up (on all PCs)
  3. Disable "Simple File Sharing" on all PCs
  4. Make sure each PC logs in with a username and password (a blank password will not work)
  5. For each user that will access the file shares remotely, create a logon account on both PCs with a matching username and password
  6. You can hide these accounts from the Welcome Screen on the shared PC if desired
